Wired vs Wireless Intercoms
Wired intercom systems provide a constant link between the gate and the receiver whereas wireless systems due to their nature, may experience interference with the connection. Before installing a wireless system consideration should be given to:
- The distance to the gate from the handset/receiver.
- Line-of-sight i.e. what is between the gate and your house and will the wireless radio signal be unobstructed.
- Nearby electro-magnetic interference - your building's structure (lots of iron and steel can create a Faraday cage effect), mobile telephone masts, electricity power lines and substations, radio or TV transmitters and RADAR.
Multiway Intercoms
Ideal for apartment blocks and gated communities these tend to be modular systems that can be customised to your specific requirements and can handle multiple property call buttons, with each flat or house able to have 3 handsets. These systems can be coupled with integrated video and keypads too. GSM Systems
There are two types of GSM systems:

GSM intercoms are wireless systems that operate via mobile phone technology. It allows you to speak to visitors to your property and grant them access even if you’re not on the premises, there is no limit to the range of this type of intercom system. The visitor uses the push button at the gate/door which then makes a call to either a landline or mobile phone, the intercom can be linked to several phones so can be answered on or off the premises, even when out of the country. The benefit of this is providing greater security to your property as it always appears as if someone is in. Installation of GSM intercoms is simple as the only wiring required is between the GSM unit and the gate/door automation itself.
- A GSM contoller is a remote control device which can be operated via GPRS. You can remotely control gates, garage doors and barriers via mobile phone from anywhere in the world. Up to 200 telephone numbers can be stored in their caller-ID so if you call the gate and your number is on the recognised list the gate will open - ideal for communal gates and rolling lists e.g. leisures centres, marinas, out of hours access to businesses etc. There are no call costs incurred with this option as the GSM controller will reject the call without answering.
